A Side Quest? New Photography Page

Hello. It’s middle of April now. As per usual of my ADHD brain, I have forgotten to update this website regularly. Time isn’t real anyway most of the time. But it’s about time I do another update on things.

This past weekend we attended the Greenleaf State Park Craft Show, like we do every spring and fall. We camped out from Thursday night until Monday for the solar eclipse, which was just slightly less than totality but still cool. I brought my camera with me and even though I didn’t use it to take pictures of the eclipse because I didn’t have any kind of filter for that, I ended up taking around 400 photos. I narrowed that down to around 100, but it’s still a lot. Maybe I went a little crazy with the camera.

Anyway, I decided maybe it was time to create a separate page for my photography stuff, instead of posting it all over on my art page or personal page. It took me a while to think up a name, but I finally decided on PetrichorPalette Photography. I picked that because I enjoy rainy days and the smell of spring rain showers. It also goes with the general vibes of the pictures I take.

I keep forgetting to update this website every so often, but i wanted to post these photos here because i liked how they turned out. These were taken at the wildlife refuge in Vian, OK.

On an unrelated note, I’ve deactivated my Society6 shop. My options were to pay an amount of money every month to keep a certain number of artworks on my shop on there, or it would delete all 200 of them except for 10. I think that’s absolute bullshit, considering the amount they give it’s artists in royalties for each sale. It wasn’t worth it to me, unless I randomly started making a bunch of sales of prints really quickly. I might use Redbubble but I don’t know yet.

I’m going to try very hard to use this blog more.

Lightbulb and iPad Art?

I’ve been looking for things to try out with this Canon 50mm lens I got, and I found this idea in a random photography tricks group I found on Facebook. I didn’t think I’d be able to do it correctly but wanted to experiment with it myself anyway. I was pleasantly surprised that they actually turned out well. It’s been done a million times already on the internet but nothing is entirely original anyway.

All I did was grab my iPad and use procreate to draw out some random color patterns and shapes. I tried different ones to see which would create the best reflections. The more contrasty and colorful ones seemed to work best. I took one little lightbulb off of a spare set of string lights I don’t really use and put it on top of my iPad. I set up my camera and turned off the lights. I’m still learning how to use my camera in manual mode. I played around with the settings a little bit til I found what I liked best. I also tried the same thing with a crystal object instead of the lightbulb, and with using a small mirror behind the iPad to reflect more colors. These were edited a little bit in Lightroom to bring the colors out and sharpen them more.

I’ve only had this 50mm lens for a few days but I’m already obsessed with it.

Photography Dump // part ii

I keep forgetting to update my website with new things because my computer broke and it’s a hassle doing things other ways I’m mostly focusing on doing photography right now…or more like, hyperfocusing. I took all of these with a canon eos 2000d / rebel t7 camera and the lens it came with, with the exception of the moon photo where I used a telephoto lens I got for Christmas.

I may try to upload some of these as prints on society6 or wherever, if anyone is interested in that, whenever I can get my laptop repaired. My iPad doesn’t seem to a want to cooperate with me doing that.

first post on this blog

Hello. So the first post on this new website / blog is going to be a photo dump. I got a refurbished Canon EOS 2000d this past week, finally, after wanting to get a DSLR for so long. I’m already obsessed with it. We went to the wildlife refuge in Vian yesterday, accidentally met up with some friends and wandered around for a few hours and took a million pictures. I think I got some good ones?
